This unique workshop is designed to enhance mental health supervisor’s ability to incorporate DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging) values in supervision.  Participants will be able to identify practical strategies for creating a more inclusive and affirming supervision experience for both the supervisee and the supervisor.

Participants will gain, or enhance, a comprehensive understanding of DEIB principles and learn culturally competent practices to improve supervisee learning outcomes. Additionally, this workshop will address the importance of acknowledging intersectionality and the specific needs of supervisees who belong to multiple marginalized groups.

Practitioners will learn and apply ethical guidelines for curating culturally competent and DEIB approaches to create a supportive and affirming environment.

NOTE: Though this workshop is highly focused on support and care of supervisees, the material covered will also be beneficial for direct client care as well.

Objectives:

1. Understanding the Ethics of Cultural Competence: Define cultural competence and identify key ethical components of culturally competent supervision. As well as discuss potential ethical pitfalls in, and impacts of, cultural competence on supervisee development and client outcomes.

2. Promoting Social and Transformative Justice via Diversity and Inclusion: Explain the concepts of diversity and inclusion and develop strategies to ethically and intentionally foster a diverse and inclusive supervisory environment.

3. Fostering a Sense of Belonging: Explore the concept of belonging and identity factors that can contribute to or detract from ethically driven practices for supervisees and clients.

4. Ethical Considerations in Culturally Competent Supervision: Discuss ethical dilemmas that may arise in promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

5. Enhancing Supervisory Skills: Develop effective communication strategies for discussing cultural competence, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging as an extension of professional ethics and best practices.

6. Evaluating and Improving Practices: Implement continuous improvement processes and utilize feedback from supervisees to enhance supervision practices.
